John Slagle wrote a good response (better than anything I could write) via e-mail thus I will post his e-mail:

Gary, I pretty much agree w/ your assessment of the game, but I wouldn't be too down on the Bucks. Who figured they w/b in the NC game after losing so much of their O to the NFL last yr? It's not the Bucks fault that they were in the NC game during a rebuilding yr. USC was supposed to be in the NC game, but they choked too soon to make it. 2 straight NC games - not bad for a team w/ 3 senior starters. That's 2 more NC games than USC has played in in the last 2 yrs. If OSU made it to the NC game next yr it w/b historic, not worthy of declining.

As lopsided as the game seemed to be last night, OSU didn't get out run or out passed. Stat wise, LSU had 7 more rushing yds, yet had 19 more attempts. LSU gained 3.10 yds per carry while OSU gained 4.83 yds per carry. And OSU passed for 34 more yds with one less passing attempt. Stat wise OSU out ran LSU and out passed LSU, but they didn't outplay LSU.

OSU didn't lose because of lack of speed. They lost because of mistakes - 2 more turnovers and some crucial penalties. 2 of the personal foul penalties were a little ticky-tack (but their own fault) - Heyward's tugging on the jersey (far worse goes on) and the shove out of bounds (looked questionable on replay).

There were many single plays that could have made a huge difference if they had gone OSU's way (OSU blocks the punt instead of getting penalized, Robiskie catches the TD pass instead of OSU then missing the FG and LSU driving for a TD - both these and others could have been 14 point turn arounds.

I think the odds had it about right - LSU by about 4. If they played again, OSU would go to Beanie and the short passing game more. Even taking out the 65 yd TD run, Beanie ran for 81 yds on 19 attempts, still over a yd better than LSU's yds per carry. Going into the game OSU was one of the better teams penalty wise and LSU was the 2nd worst team penalty wise in the country. LSU couldn't count on penalties and TOs to work in their favor so much in a rematch.

Don't forget, there was a point in that game (several in fact) where USC was up 21-10 and Illinois was driving in the redzone and gave the ball away. Turnovers killed the Big10 (MSU, WISC, ILL) not that their talent was inferior. Also, ILL lost to UM, who lost to APP. ST. and BEAT UF!!! WTF!!! Crazy year. So you're right Gary, USC probably will be given the crown, they only lost to the only D1 team that had no chance of beating APP. ST!!!!

well, the BCS has pitted several Big Televen teams vs. SECrap teams, so the bragging rights should be firmly established come Jan 7th...GO BUCKS!!! (and dare I say, Go Bl**, beat Florida!)?????
